5 Good Logo Designs
1. Allianz*
I think the strongest aspect of this logo is how well both the text and image elements work together and alone. If we see the word "Allianz" alone, we see a company that is bold yet simple and sturdy. Being that Allianz is an insurance company, these qualities are exactly the kind of thing the public should see in their brand. Looking sole at the image element of this logo, we see the image of an eagle - a common symbol in German architecture (via the Romans), branding, and art. The eagle is often seen as a symbol of power or protection. The circles encompassing this eagle contributes to the idea of protection and stability. The beak of the eagle can be seen in the serif of the letters and the structure of the letters mimic the structure of the bird.
I've elected to ignore the words altogether because I believe the picture element is so strong I would recognize it immediately (in fact, I have). This logo immediately evokes the copyright symbol (©), which I believe is a play on the fact that parody of a copyrighted material is a common form of comedy (CC's popular sketch show Key & Peele is a good example of this). Found in this logo is also the double C's that stand for Comedy Central, so that necessary design choice is fulfilled by parodying the "©". The circle - incomplete in this logo - contributes to a feeling of youthfulness and comfort (many find comfort in comedy). While the black of this logo initially makes this logo feel impersonal and official, the the brand makes it clear that this logo is some form of parody or satire, just like their content.
3. Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW)
I think the success of this logo comes is how well it represents it's history. Based in Munich, Germany, BMW started its life making aircraft engines. The intersecting lines filled in with white stand for the rotatating propellors on an airplane, while the blue indicates the sky. Additionally, blue and white are the colors of the flag of Bavaria, whose capital city is Munich. The gradient shading makes this logo appear shiny and metallic, as it would look on the front of a car. The overall appearance is masculine, vintage, and classy.
4. National Broadcasting Company (NBC)
Continuing the tradition of a peacock in the NBC logo, this 1987 version makes good use of positive and negative space by creating the body and head of the peacock out of it's feathers. The use of warm and cool colors in a rainbow like fashion makes this logo seem fun and positive while semi-subdued tones of the colors reminds maintains some sense of professionalism.
5. Westinghouse Electric
Given the composition of this list, it should be no surprise that I like circles in design. The W in this logo is drawn by what looks to be circuit board connections. The red indicates power and energy while the black is professional and versatile. I don't really know a lot about Westinghouse Electric so I can't really say much else.
